OMCO Receives Prestigious 2003 Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Award
GE Medical Systems, Sargento Foods also Honored
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, 26 February 2004 - The Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) business lobby today announced that Oconomowoc Manufacturing Corp. (OMCO) has received one of five Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Grand Awards for overall outstanding achievement in the Small Company category, taking this year's top honors for companies with fewer than 100 employees.
OMCO, a leading U.S. manufacturer and supplier of motion products, including unground bearings, ground bearings, integrated bearing assemblies, conveyor system components, casters and wheels, and certain other manufactured components used for applications in the Material Handling, Sliding Doors & Partitions, Furniture, Food & Beverage Equipment, and Automotive industries, finds itself in prestigious company, as the WMC also announced that GE Medical Systems – Information Technologies has received an unprecedented two Grand Awards in the Mega and High-Tech categories.
"These Wisconsin companies have positioned themselves to grow as the economy rebounds," said James S. Haney, President of the WMC. "They have made a commitment to keep manufacturing jobs right here in Wisconsin, and have established themselves as community and global leaders."
This is the third time that OMCO has been a recipient of a Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Award, having previously received awards in 1992 and 1989, but not in the top Grand Award category. In 2003, among other things, OMCO earned ISO 9001:2000 certification, doubled the size of its facility, was issued its first patent, increased sales by 40.0%, and lowered product costs, all without eliminating jobs.
Donald E. Sydow, OMCO's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer who has been with the company for almost 40 years, and Kyle C. Stoehr, OMCO's President, accepted the award on behalf of OMCO's employees at a black-tie banquet held at Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel. An independent panel of judges, including leaders in business, government, education and the business media, evaluated the nominations.
