OMCO Named '2005 Employer of the Year' by Two Organizations in Four Weeks
86-Year Old Employee Arline Ruhs Receives Honorable Mention Award
Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, USA, 24 October 2005 - Oconomowoc Manufacturing Corporation (OMCO), a leading manufacturer of ball bearings and other motion-related products based in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, recently received two 'Employer of the Year' awards from both the Mature Worker Committee of Greater Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Older Worker Network. The awards were presented to OMCO at the "Sterling Milwaukee: Honoring Achievers Over 60" event held at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee on September 21st and the "Wisconsin Older Worker Network Awards" event held at the Mead Hotel in Wisconsin Rapids on October 20th.
Accepting the "Sterling" award on behalf of OMCO was its Chief Executive Officer, Donald E. Sydow, who said, "It is really a tremendous honor to receive this award, as we are clearly privileged to have a number of mature workers who continue to make positive contributions to our company. As a small and growing company, we have repeatedly looked to mature workers to assume roles of leadership within our organization, thereby educating our younger employees by their example of professionalism and the utilization of their substantial skills. I am sure I share the gratitude and excitement of all our employees in accepting this award on their behalf."
OMCO President Kyle C. Stoehr accepted the Wisconsin Older Worker Network award in Wisconsin Rapids. Echoing Sydow's remarks four weeks earlier, Stoehr added "Receiving this award inspires us to do even more for our mature workers." Covenant Healthcare, who employs fully 25% of Wisconsin's entire workforce, was also recognized at the event.
In addition to receiving the 'Employer of the Year Award,' OMCO employee Arline Ruhs, an 86-year old assembly worker, received an Honorable Mention Award from the Mature Worker Committee of Greater Milwaukee. Ms. Ruhs, who was recently profiled in a front-page article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, has been an OMCO employee for over 36 years, missing only one unscheduled half-day of work during her entire period of employment with OMCO. Commenting on Ms. Ruh's award, Stoehr said, "Arline is a tremendous example of a mature worker who continues to make a positive and lasting contributing on our company and all of its employees. We are tremendously proud of Arline, and believe that no one deserves this recognition more than she does. We look forward to her continued employment with OMCO for as long as she desires to work with us."
35% of OMCO's workforce is over age 55.
